Star of the County Down

In post-COVID San Diego, Sam Miller leaves the Marine Corp to discover his wife has divorced him, changed her phone number, taken their two children to another state, and emptied their bank accounts. Destitute, Sam searches for work and decides to renew his tall crane operator license though there is no construction work in the US. The location on the globe with tall building projects is Dublin because of the UK’s Brexit withdrawal from the European Union. Work in Ireland provides money to fight for his children.

Hayley McCann is an aspiring Irish singer struggling to overcome her past and become a world-renowned vocalist. Her dream drives her being.

Sam and Hayley meet when her ex-fiancé strikes her and knocks her to the floor in a pub. Sam intercedes to protect her, and the ex-boyfriend punches him in the back. Sam loses his temper and retaliates.

Hayley and Sam develop an unlikely relationship until she leaves him to pursue her career.

Star of the County Down is about people who chase their goals and follow their hearts.

"Every character, minor and major, came alive and were as memorable as if I’d met them in person. The plot twists were clever and carefully integrated and were logical and believable."
